About
Arvid Nilsson is a Nordic distributor of fastener products. They serve the industrial and construction retail sector, with the goal of becoming the leading supplier of fasteners to retailers in that space.
A complex operation
Arvid Nilsson runs a complex operation. 4,000 customers. 35,000+ products. Each product with its own set of attributes: name, color, size, and more.
Their setup reflected that complexity. SAP handled customer and product data, price and stock. A PIM C4 system connected to Magento managed product storage. It worked, but the foundation was Magento 1, which was reaching end of life.
They needed to migrate. And they needed a partner who could understand the business first, then figure out the tech.
The specific asks: Azure integration for file searches, a custom search experience, and a custom checkout flow.
THE SOLUTION
We mapped their current systems, understood the data flows, and agreed on a direction: a new Magento shop with custom modules connecting to SAP and the PIM C4 system.
From there we built 20+ custom APIs to tie the systems together.
We moved data storage to Azure, dockerized the database, and set up Elasticsearch to speed up both page load and search.
The result on indexing was significant. Media files, including high-resolution product images, load immediately via Azure Blob storage.
